Webinar: Tree Roots ‘Designing Urban Rights-of-Way to Prevent Damage from Tree Roots’

With Deborah Hilbert and Robert Northrop. This webinar using New Research on Tree Planting Space Requirements in Florida’, was being presented by the University of Florida IFAS Extension and co-hosted by the Arboricultural Association.
Tree roots often come in conflict with elements of the built environment within our cities, particularly when planted in limited soil locations. Each year local governments spend millions of dollars repairing sidewalks and curbs damaged by trees planted in sites that they outgrow. This damage interferes with stormwater management systems, inhibits pedestrian movement and shortens the life of city trees, increasing the cost of urban forestry programs.
